A Home for Hazel
"Home takes various forms for Hazel in this heartwarming tale of a timid, young squirrel. From the beginning when she is born in an abandoned attic to the end when she is relocated to a safe park, Hazel has several adventures while creating and keeping her homes. Soft, multimedia illustrations complement the descriptive text. Wonderful read aloud for young children" Susan Stires, Bank Street College
"Young children will be entranced by Hazel's ability to adapt to the many changes in her life. This gentle introduction to resilience and change for young readers has watercolors full of warmth and beauty, adding texture and clarity to Hazel's adventures. This book is a winning addition to any home or classroom library." Carol Zall Lincoln author of The Strange Tale of the Determined Crocodile
One afternoon Hazel woke up to see two round green eyes upon her.
BIO
Susan Benedict is a retired teacher living in Portsmouth, NH with her husband and their retired greyhound, Cass. She is the happy recipient of many stories. A number of these were woven together to make Hazel's story--It didn't necessarily happen, but it's all true.
Matthew's Tale was a gift Susan's cousin gave her the day they met in Roscommon, Ireland, where she'd traveled to research her family history. His daughter, Cora, reached back into her childhood to create illustrations that evoke the mystical, magical west of Ireland.
